Designated Driver

Coca‑Cola Ireland’s annual Designated Driver campaign returns to venues across Ireland to promote road safety over the Christmas period. Between Monday 28th November, 2011 and 1st January, 2012, designated drivers can claim free soft drinks, juices and bottled water at over 1,000 participating pubs.

The award-winning road safety campaign, launched this year with the help of television and radio broadcaster Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin, promotes road safety during the season of Christmas celebrations. It also forms part of Coca Cola Ireland’s pledge to promote the positive role that soft drinks can play as alternatives to alcohol.

The Designated Driver initiative, which has been running in the Republic of Ireland since 2004, and in Northern Ireland since 2007, is supported by An Garda Siochana, Drinkaware.ie and the Road Safety Authority. It is also backed by the Licensed Vintners Association, the Vintners Federation of Ireland, the Restaurants Association of Ireland, the Irish Hotels Federation and the Irish Nightclub Industry Association.

Fionnuala Sheehan, Chief Executive of drinkaware.ie, said "We are delighted to fully endorse the Coca‑Cola Designated Driver campaign and encourage the public to avail of it. The campaign is a practical initiative that will encourage responsible drinking around the busy Christmas period."
