Rose’s Lime cordial is part of our Schweppes range in Ireland. Simply dilute with water to make a refreshing, zingy drink. Rose’s Lime Cordial is used by bartenders across the globe as a staple in many of their cocktails, including the classic Gimlet.
The Rose family behind the name were shipbuilders in Leith, near Edinburgh. Lauchlin Rose first imported lime juice from the West Indies in the 1860s. Trade thrived because merchant ships were compelled to carry lime or lemon juice. He devised a method for preserving juice without alcohol and so he invented the world’s first concentrated fruit drink. As demand increased, Rose spotted an opportunity and after sweetening and bottling the neat juice, he sold it in Britain. He patented and launched Rose’s Lime Cordial in 1867.
