What is Coca‑Cola doing to reduce energy use, waste and packaging?

We are committed to cutting carbon while growing our business.

An innovative Combined Heat and Power plant was recently constructed as part of our new bottling facility in Lisburn Co. Antrim which reduces our CO2 emissions by 65%.A first within the UK and Ireland, the quad generation CHP plant provides all utilities for the bottling facility - electricity, steam, chilled water and CO2.  It can also support the national grid with green electricity on demand.

Reducing landfill is a top priority. Ninety four per cent of the waste produced in our bottling facility is now recycled.

In terms of packaging we've managed to reduce the weight of our plastic bottles by 22% per cent.  The wall of our cans are now 5% lighter and as thin as a human hair, while we have reduced the weight of our glass bottles by 20%. Our glass bottles contain 37 per cent recycled glass and our cans contain 50 per cent recycled aluminum.

We work with Repak to fund packaging recycling in the Republic of Ireland and in Northern Ireland, we partner with Wastepack to maintain our compliance with the relevant packaging regulations.
