What is aspartame and is it safe?

Aspartame is a low calorie sweetener, approximately 200 times sweeter than sugar. It is non-cariogenic (this means it doesn't cause tooth decay) and one of the most thoroughly tested ingredients in the world.

Rigorous scientific evidence has shown that it is a safe ingredient for use in food and drink, approved by European and local regulators. At Coca‑Cola, we sometimes use it in combination with acesulfame-K to give a more sugar-like taste, without the calories. It helps us provide more options to people who enjoy our products.
