New product has sweetness stevia leaf extract and sugar

Coca‑Cola is adding a brand new product and choice to its prominent stable of soft drinks; Coca‑Cola Life is a new lower-calorie drink which is sweetened with stevia extract meaning that it contains a third less sugar and a third fewer calories[1].

Showcasing the company’s commitment to providing a range of products to suit a variety of lifestyles, there is now a cola for everyone as Coca‑Cola Life joins Coca‑Cola, Diet Coke, and Coca‑Cola Zero on shelves in Ireland.

Sweetened with a blend of sugar and stevia leaf extract both naturally-sourced, a 330ml can of Coca‑Cola Life contains a third less sugar and a third fewer calories (89 calories per can)[1]. Stevia is a zero calorie sweetener derived from the leaves of the stevia plant.

In development since 2009, Coca‑Cola Life delivers the great taste you expect from Coca‑Cola and, just like its predecessors, contains only natural flavours and no added preservatives.

Coca‑Cola Life is an invitation to enjoy a new drink option, and its striking green can combines the iconic Coca‑Cola trademark look with a brand new and eye-catching twist.

Jon Woods, General Manager, UK and Ireland explains: “We’re very excited to add Coca‑Cola Life to our portfolio and bring it to consumers in Ireland. We’re committed to responding to their changing lifestyle choices of our consumers offering them more low- and zero- calories options and which is why Coca‑Cola Life is a great addition to our portfolio of great tasting and refreshing drinks.

“Sweetened with a blend of sugar and stevia leaf extract, which are both naturally-sourced, we have created a drink with a third less sugar and a third fewer calories without compromising on the great taste that everyone loves about Coca‑Cola[1].”

Coca‑Cola Life is the most recent example in a series of initiatives by the Company to inspire happier, healthier lives. It delivers on the Company’s well-being commitments, both in Ireland and around the world, to provide consumers with increased choice of reduced, low and no-calorie beverage options and also to reduce the average calories per litre in its range of sparkling drinks by 5% by the end of 2015.

In addition to continuing to reduce the calories across its portfolio Coca‑Cola is also committed to encouraging more people to lead more active lives. In 2014 Coca‑Cola Ireland made an investment in dublinbikes to enable the expansion of the scheme. The partnership with the Dublin City Council and JC Decaux saw the Coca‑Cola Zero ‘dublinbikes’ double the number of stations to 100 and treble the number of bikes available – up to 1500.

The commitment to Coca‑Cola Zero ‘dublinbikes’ builds on other measures the company is taking to encourage active lifestyles across the country. These include its support for the recently launched regional Coca‑Cola Zero bike schemes in Cork, Galway and Limerick and the granting of €500k through the Coca‑Cola Thank You Fund since 2011 to local voluntary and non-profit groups who are encouraging communities to be more active.

Coca‑Cola Life was first piloted in Argentina and Chile in 2013, and has already successfully launched in Great Britain and Sweden to join the rest of the Coca‑Cola family.

It will be available on shelves across Ireland from the end of January. The launch will be supported by a marketing campaign, which will include digital, outdoor and print.

The product will be available in 2L PET bottle, 1.75L PET bottle, 500ml PET bottle, 8 x 300ml can multipack, and 330ml can. All packs will be fully recyclable and the 330ml can will contain recycled materials[2]. The recommended retail price for Coca‑Cola Life will be in line with the Coca‑Cola portfolio.
