Monday 10th June 2013 - Coca‑Cola Ireland today released details of the Coca‑Cola Thank You Fund Roadshow, designed to spread the word about the Fund, which has donated €250,000 to non-profit organisations on the island of Ireland each year since 2011.

Fitness expert and TV personality Karl Henry will speak at each of the four events which are part of the Coca‑Cola Thank You Fund Roadshow, taking place in Cork, Dublin, Galway and Limerick starting on June 27th. Karl will be joined by nutritionist Paula Mee. Representatives of non-profit organisations that promote balanced, healthy and active living and which could benefit from the funding are invited to attend the events. For details on the events log onto www.coca-cola.ie/thankyou.

Personal trainer Karl Henry will share a wealth of tips about building more activity into your everyday life. As a judge for The Coca‑Cola Thank You Fund, he’ll also be offering advice on the types of initiatives that could benefit from a grant from the Fund. Paula Mee, nutritionist, will join Karl and will offer ideas and inspiration on healthy eating options to suit busy lifestyles.

The Federation of Irish Sport, The Wheel and the Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action (NICVA) are official partners to the Coca‑Cola Thank You Fund once again. This year, the Fund is seeking proposals from organisations who take an innovative approach to encouraging communities to lead more balanced, healthy and active lifestyles. The Fund is specifically looking for interesting new projects which are promoting innovative approaches to nutrition and activity which could have the potential to be scaled up and rolled out across numerous communities.

Speaking this morning at the launch of the Coca‑Cola Thank You Fund Roadshow, Karl Henry said: “The culture of giving back is particularly strong in Ireland, which has an abundance of non-profit organisations that are powered by the hard work and dedication of thousands of volunteers. Coca‑Cola’s Thank You Fund is offering the opportunity to share in the €125,000 prize fund to those which promote healthy and active lifestyles within communities across Ireland. This is an excellent opportunity to win substantial financial support for a project that will mobilise your local community to lead a more balanced active lifestyle. It’s hoped the Roadshow will get people thinking about what initiatives would be most effective in reaching the widest number of people and improving their lives through greater shared knowledge about exercise and nutrition.”

A total of €125,000 is available for distribution through the Fund in 2013. The overall winner will receive €25,000 and a further ten organisations will receive €10,000 each. The projects selected will serve as a model for other communities wishing to implement similar programmes.

Attendees at the each Roadshow event will learn how best to go about applying for the funding. Applicant organisations will be required to provide details on the reach and impact of their proposed project, as well as to outline its innovative aspect which will serve to capture the imagination and interest of the local community and encourage them to become involved.

Speaking today, Erica Roseingrave, Public Affairs and Communications Manager, Coca‑Cola HBC Ireland, said: “We want to make it as easy as possible for non-profit organisations across Ireland to access the information they need to apply for a grant from the Coca‑Cola Thank You Fund. This year for the first time, that outreach effort includes the Coca‑Cola Thank You Fund Roadshow, with events taking place in Cork, Dublin, Galway and Limerick. Among the speakers will be Karl Henry, the well-known personal trainer and fitness expert, who will outline the type of projects the Fund is looking to support. He will also provide some fitness tips that are sure to get the audience moving. The aim is to encourage people to come up with inspired ideas for projects that will improve the quality of life enjoyed by the whole community.”

The Fund will accept applications until 19th July, 2013. All applications should be submitted via the Coca‑Cola website: www.coca-cola.ie/thankyou. After the closing date, a judging panel, which will include representatives from The Federation of Irish Sport, The Wheel, NICVA and Coca‑Cola, will convene to agree on a shortlist of 45 organisations which will be published on the Coca‑Cola website on September 1st, 2013. The public will then be asked to vote on who should be selected. 50% of the final decision will derive from the public vote and 50% will be determined by the expert judging panel. The winners will be announced in November 2013.
