Water is essential to our business, as it is the main ingredient in our products. We are working very hard in all of our plants to make more efficient use of water. Our mantra is “reduce, recycle, replenish”.
In Ireland, we use less than 1.69 litres of water for every litre of drink we make. That’s one of the lowest levels in the whole of The
We recycle the water we use for manufacturing and return it to the environment safely. Our bottling plant in Northern Ireland has an on-site wastewater treatment facility, so any water we release is suitable for farming and won’t harm plants and fish
We give back to communities through local water initiatives. We sponsor the Green Coast Awards each year and help organise community coastal clean-ups.
In our bottling plants, we closely monitor our water sources, minimising the amount of water we withdraw from local surroundings. By installing special technology on our production lines we’ve been able to improve our water efficiency. In Northern Ireland we have improved water efficiency by over 30% since 2008 and have plans in place to continue to do so year on year by investing in new technology and implementing behavioural changes.
We are involved in more than 200 projects in over 60 countries. This includes the Replenish Africa Initiative (RAIN) which is our 6 year $30million contribution to provide over 2 million people in Africa with access to clean water by 2015, and working with WWF on fresh water reservoirs. We have committed $23million to WWF to protect some of the world’s most important fresh water basins including the Danube in Europe
