What was the inspiration behind your collection?
There were lots! Alexander Liberman’s large-scale cut-out sculptures, Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli, Turner Prize winner Nicole Wermers, Kurt Cobain, billboards, pin-ups and grunge.
Do you have a favorite piece?
We never have just one, but we are making quite a variety of oversized coats this season, which are new to the brand and we love them!
Which celebrities have you seen wearing Fyodor Golan?
Our latest project was with Rihanna. She wore items from our Autumn Winter 2014 collection in video promoting her Anti World Tour. The clips were released in stages showing her contrasting fragile and dark sides, which is exactly what you get with our brand too. We also just dressed Zendaya, who chose to wear our love sequin top on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

What’s it like having a studio at the historic Somerset House?
In 2011 we won the Fashion Fringe award and one of the prizes was the studio space, which was the most fantastic prize we’ve ever won. It’s not at all what you imagine from the façade, but it has become our home. It’s a good space to create in, which is extremely important for young designers, so it’s helped us immensely.
How does it compare doing a show at Somerset House and on Brewer Street in Soho?
It's very different. Moving London Fashion Week to Soho was all about bringing more energy and excitement to the event. The car park is great! It’s our second time doing an exhibition there and we just love the space. We never showed our collection at the Somerset House catwalk space as it felt too generic and there was never time to change the set for each show. But it did have a certain magic, especially in the designer showrooms and as a place to hang out after the shows.
What do you like most about London’s fashion scene?
The most important thing is that you can really start from nothing and grow with your vision. There are some great platforms here to help you in the beginning, and to help you grow. We were lucky enough to meet some fantastic people that helped us, from amazing private client support to the industry’s advisers.
What trends should we look out for this year?
Look out for bright colours! We are here to introduce them into your wardrobe!
Fyodor Golan’s exuberant collections are available in stores worldwide, from Selfridges in London, Luisa Via Roma in Florence, HLorenzo in Los Angeles, and I.T in China and Hong Kong. For more details, visit the website: http://fyodorgolan.co.uk/
